What is a music promo?

A music promo is a video with a song that is playing throughout, this is released by the musical artist that has performed or wrote this piece of music.
Music promo’s are released to advertise and show their audience what the song is and also to give a meaning or a narrative to that sound track.

When the artist releases a music promo it usually promotes a release of an EP, album or single. Music artists and also record companies use music promos to promote a new artist that is trying to get there music tracks onto the charts and to gain 'fans' that will enjoy their music and make their product better.

Music promos are released onto the internet for the audience to listen to for free. This is another way for their music promos and songs to become recognisable, they can travel and gain popularity because the websites that they are realised on will enable the audience to share the promo around. There are many different ways for the artist to show their music promos on, such as websites like:
  • Youtube
  • The artists website
  • social media
  • Vevo
  • blogs
These are just a few of many ways that the music promos are realised.

Audience members use the music promos to see what the taste of an artists new album will be like. Such as Jason Derulo realised 'The Other Side' music promo as a build up to his new album 'Tattoos'. This pulls the audience's attention to actually want to see what else they might realise.
