Justification for our preliminary

Justification for our location of our preliminary: Car park, sports field and corridor/stair well

As a group we decided that the song we will base our preliminary music promo on will be ‘Rollin’ by Limp Bizkit. When we were discussing where the location of it could be, we came up with the idea of having part of the music video in a car in a car park. This is also taken from the original music video of the music artist being in a car. We looked at the lyrics of the song and decided that it would make sense to the audience that they are in a car in the content of this music video. We also discussed that the audience might become disinterested in the promo if it was in one location the entire time. So after discussing we decided that we would use the stairwell in the school’s new block. We also decided that they looked right with just a white wash for a background and that we could use the stairs to our advantage for the video.

Justification of the props used in our preliminary: Car and object that we rolled

We decided that we will use my car for the music promo; this meant that if we was parked in the car park it will make it more funny for the audience because we are stationary but pretending we are driving around. We wanted the music promo to have quite a lot of a comedy factor to it. So when we was looking at the lyrics we saw that the chorus had continuous lyrics like ‘rollin, rollin, rollin, rollin what’, we want to use objects in this section that can roll. These items could be rolled into shot and then out of shot. We decided that we could use:

·         Rolling pin

·         Sausage roll

·         Ball

·         Tin

·         Beans tin

·         Make up container

·         Pot noodle

We think the audience will found it funny if we have a shot of a sausage roll, this wouldn’t be able to roll but the audience will find it amusing to see.

Justification for our costume: Gangster clothing

The genre of the song ‘Rollin’ is Hip Hop and stereotypically the artist in this genre’s music promos all wear what I call ‘Gangster’ clothing. With this in mind we thought that it would also fit our music promos genre and what we would expect. With making this decision we watched the original ‘Rollin’ music video and he wore the gangster clothing. We decided that the ‘gangster’ clothing would consist of a baseball cap, a hoodie and either jeans or jogging bottoms. This we think will work well in our promo.

Justification of our song: ‘Rollin’ by Limp Bizket

We chose this song because we all knew it and we really enjoy it. After looking at the lyrics we had so many good ideas of what we could incorporate from the meaning. We also thought that that because it is a popular song and many people know it, that it would enhance our audience. As a group we all thought that the narrative that runs all the way through would be good and that we could also use a lot of all of our skills to truly make the song work with what we had in mind for it.
